Understanding Scopes – New York

This workshop covers the use of waveforms and vectorscopes on set. LUTs 101: Theory – New York

Overview

Many of the latest camera systems offer either Log or Raw recording modes that give us the most possible information out of the camera. These features are great at keeping the original camera ‘negative’ as clean as possible, but at the same time they can leave your image on set looking very flat and boring. This is where the use of Look Up Tables (LUT) comes in, which are offsets that allow you to manipulate your image and create a look without affecting the camera originals. This workshop is split into two sections, LUTs 101: Theory & LUTs 201: Practical Application.

LUTs 101: Theory will demonstrate the process for creating a LUT for cameras like the Alexa, Sony F5 & F55, and Varicam. Specific focus is types of LUTs, LUT combinations and layering, and tools used for OnSet LUT creation.

Overview

LUTs 201: Practical Application further expands on the curriculum of LUTs 101: Theory. This class explores the creative side of LUT design as well as applying LUTs in different post production applications. Working with live camera sources, this class demonstrates creating looks from various cameras. These looks will then be applied in a variety of post editing and grading applications.


Digital AC Series: 101 – Basic Knowledge & Practices – New York

The Digital AC101 Basic Knowledge & Practices class is designed to give the student a good grounding in all aspects of a professional motion picture camera. Students will learn all the key components that are used to build a professional camera system and will become familiar with the functionality of all pro tripod and fluid head platforms. Camera support form and function are discussed and built as well as all accessories relating to camera body and lens function. Routing of electronics and electrical accessories, along with various cable connectors and their function will be discussed. We’ll also cover lens design and function as well as building accessories onto lenses.


Digital AC Series: 201 – Building the Camera – New York

The Digital AC 201 class builds on knowledge gained from the 101 class. Participants will learn to build camera packages according to the needs of production. Issues such as aspect ratio, frame rates, monitoring scenarios, and codecs will be discussed. Once these criteria have been covered, the class will build a camera from the ground up into a complete package. Once built, each part of the system will be checked and tested. Internal and external recording scenarios will also be tested and discussed.


Wireless Video Intensive – New York

This workshop teaches the technical principles and hands-on configuration of wireless video technology for studio, handheld, and gimbal applications. It explores a variety of wireless video equipment used to monitor the camera on set, and setups are covered from a logistical and practical point of view.

AbelCine offers the only Freefly-certified MōVI Workshop, which is a two-day course designed to fully immerse an experienced camera operator in all of the knowledge necessary to use the Freefly MōVI. Factory-trained AbelCine instructors will discuss and demonstrate the technical aspects as well as the craft and philosophy behind the MōVI system. This Masterclass is designed for industry professionals as a preparation and training program for employment inside high-end Commercials Colour Grading facility.
